Appointments

We require 24 hours’ notice for cancellations. The fee for a missed or late cancelled appointment is $30. Fees for cancellations related to illness will be waived.

We accept cash (please note that we cannot provide change), checks made out to HSQCA, and credit cards (including HSA cards and contactless payment methods). We strongly encourage you to set up an account when you schedule your first appointment.  It will make scheduling faster for you, and it will help us to keep more accurate records of your visits and treatments. Your information will be used solely for our communication with you; it will not be shared with any third party.

Appointments can be scheduled on the same day, and any available time slots will be displayed for your selection. You may book an appointment up to 30 days in advance.

Walk-ins are available at the discretion of the acupuncturist. If you need assistance, please email us at contact.hsqca@gmail.com. Our phone number is 617-868-5678; however, we are not always available to respond to calls or texts.

Community acupuncture differs from other types of acupuncture treatments you may have had previously. All treatments are conducted face-up or side-lying on massage tables. We use many different strategies to address your concerns and the needles may not go directly into areas that are bothering you. Most often, needles are placed on the legs, arms, head, shoulders and ears. While this may seem strange, it is all founded on the principles of East Asian medicine and the many connections in the body that have been observed over thousands of years. Please bring us all your questions! We are happy to make you feel comfortable with our process.

Treatments are conducted in a group treatment setting, so you may see other people being treated when you walk in. We strive to keep the treatment space relaxed and comfortable. Many people fall asleep while they are receiving acupuncture. If you are sensitive to sounds, earplugs are available.

We generally do not do dry needling, as we have other ways to treat muscular pain. We focus our efforts on acupuncture, so we seldom offer adjunctive therapies like cupping, gua sha, or cosmetic treatments. We happily offer local referrals for more in-depth cupping or other therapies.

Wear LOOSE, comfortable clothing. It is helpful to bring shorts or a skirt. Please, no cologne or scents- we have many sensitive patients. If we remind you of this, it is not meant to be personal.

Masks are optional for patients and staff. Masks are available for your use, and we will continue to operate our high-capacity air filters. Patients and staff are expected to wear masks if they are actively coughing or sneezing. We also expect staff and patients to stay home if they have a fever. We will never charge you for a cancellation due to an illness-related appointment. For all other circumstances, our 24-hour cancellation policy applies.

If driving, allow time to find parking; meters are in effect from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. If taking the Red Line, we are about a 5-minute walk from the Harvard Square T station, down Massachusetts Avenue, just past the corner of Bow Street. The #1 bus stops across the street.
